For April we have brewed a new experimental seasonal to add to our collection range. Gypsy Queen uses oatmeal in the mash and is specially dry hopped in cask for an maximum aroma. Using oatmeal gives a smooth mouthfeel and more body this paired with bright juicy orange and lemon citrus notes from the hops makes the perfect beer to welcome the warm weather.

The beer is named after a 1844 iron steam-boat, which was fitted with two new and innovative 'belt crank' engines. The boat was the first built by brothers Jacob and Joseph Samuda, who were based just down the river from our brewery in Bow-creek. However, on its maiden voyage the one of the engines on the Gypsy Queen exploded, killing 5 of the crew including Jacob Samuda. You can still find his gravestone in Novo Sephardic cemetery, Mile End, where is inscription describes him as the first Jewish engineer.
